Inutile dire che la prima cosa che mi ha attirato su questo libro è stata la cover. La magnifica cover. Poi da cosa nasce cosa e ho divorato - al limite della mia conoscenza di inglese e tempo libero - questa storia. Mi fanno davvero impazzire le storie in cui storia e fantasia si mescolano come in questo caso. La nostra protagonista ha praticamente il fuoco nel sangue. Lo può creare, estinguere e manovrarlo come più le piace. 

Burning Bright è un miscuglio tra avventure marittime e magia con un pizzico di romance che non guasta mai. E' il viaggio di una donna dal talento inaspettato e raro (a 21 anni doveva essere troppo grande per far manifestare poteri) che troverà la sua strada e posto nel mondo.

Il periodo Regency è affascinante e usato in molti romanzi ma questo raccontato dalla McShane è un Regency alternativo con personaggi dai poteri magici. 

Questo romanzo ha praticamente tutto ciò che amo in un romanzo, tranne forse che avrei preferito più scene romantiche. Amo le storie con pirati, con protagoniste fuori dagli schemi e con ambientazioni storiche, c'è poco da fare.

Lo stile della McShane è molto buono e scorrevole, di un inglese non troppo complicato per chi non è madrelingua come me. Quindi potrei consigliarlo anche a chi è agli inizi nelle letture straniere.

Una storia avvincente che consiglio a chiunque ami l'avventura e i personaggi pieni di determinazione e coraggio.
